We were approached by musicians using keyboard controllers such as M-Audio’s Axiom49/61 or Novation’s SL49/61 mkII along with a laptop computer to see if we could provide an upgraded transportation solution to what was already on the market, and our designers admittedly went a little crazy making an insanely phenominal keyboard gig bag.
Lockable zippers for security, three pockets to hold your laptop, cables, audio device, external HD and more, plus a cover for these pockets for added security (and a great place to keep your charts). The bags are made of weather-resistant 1680D poly-nylon with rubber standoffs on bottom and back side, and your keyboard nestles into thick padding that provides just the right amount of pampering for your gear.

After that, the rest is history working at the best dance clubs in Puerto Rico. In 1987 he moved to Florida, where he became the most requested DJ in West Palm Beach and also working at an FM radio station bringing the best Latin music to the beaches. After carrying my setup in a regular backpack, I found the Lil Namba Remix thanks to DJ Techtools and I decided this was the bag for me. I can carry my laptop, headphones, midi controller, cables, etc. I don’t leave home without my Namba Remix bag; this is the most important for me because I’ve got my equipment protected.

We’re in the middle of summer, it’s hot all across the United States, and from the lack of recent Namba Gear blog posts you’d be forgiven for thinking there’s not much going on. Nothing could be further from the truth.

To start with, we’ve been out of stock on some of your favorite Namba Gear products, to which we are sincerely sorry. But we have a full container coming to the States by the end of this month and another container arriving in Europe at the same time.

These shipments not only have our current products to restock, but the new Midnight Blue color for the Big Namba Studio Backpak, Lil Namba Remix Backpack and the Samba Personal Stash Bag. We’ll also be introducing three new products (more on that later).

We are also planning our visit to Atlantic City, NJ for the annual DJ Expo on August 16th. If you are there, be sure and stop by and say hi.

We’re also starting to plan a relocation of our offices from Los Angeles, CA to Portland, OR. I guess we got caught in LA traffic just one time too many. Our warehouse and fullfillment will remain in Los Angeles.

And maybe like you, the Namba crew has been doing a little summer gigging. We can only hope that your gigs are paying better than ours.

Be sure to hook up with us on Facebook and tell us about your Namba Gear, as we also have some interesting and very different content happening there.

your friends at Namba Gear

Unfortunately, for many artists, the methods for collecting this revenue remain shrouded in mystery. Most musicians know that… ASCAP, BMI, and SESAC are there to collect royalties for the songwriter, but who represents the recording artist whose performance is also critical to a song’s success? SoundExchange, a non-profit performance rights organization, is here to help. Not only do they offer a comprehensive understanding of the way royalties function in the digital world, they can also aid in collecting money that you may be due. This short video contains a quick overview of how SoundExchange works. Take a look – you just might have money waiting for you!

FAVORITE MUSIC SOFTWARE: Logic & MainStage

Namba Gear: Big Namba Studio Backpack

Jamie Bonk is a contemporary jazz guitarist whose music draws on various styles including Jazz, Chill and Pop. His music has been heard on over 700 radio stations world-wide and he has won or has been nominated for a number of awards including: Nominee for “Guitarist of the Year” (Canadian Smooth Jazz Awards 2005) and Winner of Album of the Year and Best Instrumental Album Acoustic for “My World” (NAR Music Awards 2004). Jamie is currently performing in the Toronto/Southern Ontario region, composing for his next release, and conducting an ongoing series of seminars for Apple focusing on digital recording. Jamie uses and is endorsed by Godin Guitars.

TELL US ABOUT YOUR LATEST PROJECT. I’m writing for my sixth release right now and things couldn’t be going better! There have been times in the past when the tunes came slowly, but over the last few months things have (thankfully!) been going great. I’ve written almost 40 new pieces, of which 15-20 are what I would call “album quality”. Over the next month or so, I’ll narrow down the song list, roll up my sleeves and start the hard work of arranging/producing/recording the tracks. I’m hoping I can enlist the help of all of the great musicians I’ve played with on my previous records and create an album that combines my love of both acoustic and electronic music.

WHAT DO YOU LIKE BEST ABOUT YOUR NAMBA GEAR BAG?: I suppose this is a cliche but: Form meets function. I’ve been moving gear around now for probably 30 years or so — that’s carrying lots and lots of different setups into rehearsals, gigs, events, teaching, etc. I’ve found without bags and cases built specifically for music gear, very quickly my focus turns off of music. The last thing I want to be concerned about when going to a gig is whether or not my computer is safe or if I’ve forgotten a cable or battery. All of the different storage areas in my Big Namba Studio Backpack help to keep me organized and the padded compartments make sure all of my gear is safe and secure. In the end, it helps me to concentrate on the important thing - music!

WHAT ELSE IS GOING ON? I was looking at some of the other artist profiles on the Namba Gear website and couldn’t help but think we live in an absolutely amazing era! Like many of the other profiled artists, my studio is wherever I am. Sure there are a few things like my guitars and my studio monitors that won’t fit in my Big Namba Studio Backpack (maybe you guys are working on the Huge Namba Studio Backpack right now!), but for the most part my entire studio is now in a great backpack. Thank you Namba Gear!

Review by Matt Belcher

All traveling DJs need something to carry their gear around in, even if they’re just hoofing it down to the local dive bar for a tune-up set. After hunting for a suitably rugged, comfortable and well-priced bag for my digital DJ endeavors, I finally struck gold with the Lil Namba Remix Backpack. The smaller brother of the Big Namba Studio Backpack, this medium sized, nice-looking gear bag really does the job, and is integral to my setup. If you’re interested in a single gig bag for a laptop/controller/soundcard rig, check out the full review.
