Namba Gear: Big Namba Studio Backpack

K.D. has been banging skins since conception. He has an aggressive style which combines the power of thunder with the passion of a true artist. Always in control, and never missing a beat, he has managed to gain recognition through hard work. He has gained the endorsement of various drum companies as well as being asked to test drumsticks for a major manufacturer. Those who have seen him play know the power behind this beat maker.

Besides his current work with LXIX, K.D. is active in studio sessions with various established musicians throughout the United States. His work varies from Hip-Hop to plain old Rock’n'Roll. Off-stage this powerhouse becomes a congenial, easy-going jokester. Always staying to sign autographs until the last fan has gone home. (That’s probably because it takes that long to load all of his gear back into his SUV!! lol )

I am a full-time pro musician. I am very visible I can currently be seen With LXIX, Drastic Party, Jamie Rio, Color Blind, and W. A. S. playing live booth drum kit & electronic Percussion. I was a drum stick Tester for Mainline under the direction of Joe Pollard. I have done numerous albums including Lxix, Drastic Party, Agent Shocking, Silence produced by John Ashton, Kirsten, and two solo CD’s. I am currently in the studio with Color Blind, And W. A. S. both of these projects are Improv Jazz.

TELL US ABOUT YOUR LATEST PROJECT, RECORDING OR PERFORMANCE:

I recently started taking lessons from Luis Conte. Many of you know that Luis is my favorite percussionist / Musician, and am learning a great deal from him.

Matt Piper has informed me that he is almost done with the W.A.S. Album Artwork, and as soon as we get the Bar Code the CD will be released.

I have been in the Studio with Ken Hilton recording an album. Ken is an amazing multi instrumentalist, and the album sounds fantastic.

I also recorded the latest Silence single, which is scheduled for a January release, and rehearsals for live shows have taken place. The line up is pretty cool with Tino Vocals, Steve Guitar, Roger Keyboards, Mondo Bass, and Myself on Drum Kit.

WHAT DO YOU LIKE BEST ABOUT YOUR NAMBA GEAR BAG?

As a drummer/percussionist/programmer I carry a few different types of controllers in my Big Namba Studio Backpack, including the M-Audio Trigger Finger and Roland HPD 15 along with my laptop computer. Everything I need seems to fit into this backpack with no problem. Bottom line… It’s roomy, stylish and comfortable to wear.

TELL US ABOUT YOUR FAVORITE REMOTE RECORDING LOCATION:

I do the majority of my editing and rough mixing at various Starbucks around the LA area.

WHAT DO YOU LIKE BEST ABOUT YOUR NAMBA GEAR BAG? The thoughtful design of the Big Namba Studio Backpack makes this bag stand far apart from conventional carrying cases & bags. The strong structured pockets give ample protection for delicate cables. Strong elastic on netted pockets really keep small items from falling out and bouncing about the interior of the bag. Quick & easy removal of the laptop for airport security. The Color Green!

WHAT ELSE HAVE YOU BEEN UP TO? I have been composing music the last few years for use with Neurofeedback, which is also known as EEG Biofeedback. I just got my own personal system and needed a case to transport it.  A system consists of a laptop, EEG sensors, EEG preamp, assorted cables and 2 sets of headphones,  so the Big Namba was a natural fit. The EEG sensors themselves are ultra sensitive contacts with very fine non-shielded wire to attach to the scalp. They have to be well protected as even the slightest crease will damage them. The Namba bag provides well-reinforced pockets that really suit this application.

More regarding Neurofeedback: The state of the art neurofeedback system I use, NeuroCARE®, reads the electrical activity of the brain and detects moment to moment changes, including those times when the nervous system begins to display turbulence. That might be loss of focus, worry about the past or future, depression, hypervigilance – however it manifests. The software flags those moments for your brain by a brief pause in music. The brain alerts to that pause, comes back to the present moment, away from the turbulence, and learns over time – often very quickly – to run itself in this new, more efficient, flexible and resilient way. It is also used for peak performance enhancement, ADD, Sleep disorders and transformational work, just to mention a few applications.

A Musician’s Guide to Making Jet Lag Work for You

Monday, November 3rd, 2008

I’ve been traveling a lot lately and using it as an opportunity to continue testing of the Namba Gear bags, so I thought that I would talk a bit about preventing jet lag. But I realised that there are a ton of articles and blogs on preventing jet lag and you guys probably already know about resetting your watch to local time, no alchohol or caffine on the plane, and taking melatonin. So I thought I’d tell you a story about a friend of mine and how she uses jet lag to her advantage.

You can always “crash” on the way home.My friend is an entertainment attorney based in New York, who always schedules her negotiating sessions in London to start after lunch. She takes a red-eye over from New York, arriving about six in the morning. She gets to her hotel by seven, sleeps until one in the afternoon, has “breakfast” and starts her negotiating at 2:30pm (which would be 8:30am New York time). The negotiation goes on straight through into the evening, with dinner being sandwiches brought in about seven. After dinner when her London adversarys begin to flag, she’s still going strong. She may keep the negotiations going until one or two in the morning, by which time the Londoners are completely worn out.

The next day, she sleeps again until one in the afternoon (while her opponents have to go into their offices in the morning to do other work) and starts the negotiations again at 2:30pm.

By forcing the other side to conform to her own time zone, she effectively inflicts the jet lag on them rather than herself.

So maybe you aren’t in any heavy negotiations and are just changing time zones to do a gig. Keep this example in mind, let the time zones work for you, and you’ll feel fresh and at your best to “rock the house”.

Got any good jet lag tips or stories? Feel free to share…
